About PNG
When was PNG created?
It was created in 1995 by a group of developers called the PNG Development Group. Development started after the compression method used in GIF became subject to patent licensing fees, and the first official PNG version was released in 1996.
Will converting my JPG to PNG give it a transparent background?
No. Converting to PNG does not create transparency. It only changes the format. If your original image has a solid background, the new PNG image will too. Transparency has to already exist in the source image.
Fun Facts About PNG
– PNG is pronounced two different ways. Some people say each letter, “P-N-G,” while others pronounce it “ping.”
– PNG is an open format. You do not need to pay royalties simply to create or decode standard PNG files.
