Do I need a special app on my phone or tablet to play an MP4 file?
Generally all modern phones and tablets have no issues playing MP4 files out of the box. If your video isn’t playing, it may be a corrupt file. You can also try using VLC Player the mobile version. It’s a well known, free, open source app.
What codecs are supported by MP4?
It supports mainly H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, and MPEG-4 for video combined with AAC, MP3, ALAC, and AC-3 audio codecs. The most common combination is H.264 video with AAC audio.
Fun facts about MP4

– Despite being over 20 years old, MP4 remains the world’s most used video format today.
