About The FLAC Format
FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec and it was first released in 2001. It is an audio format that compresses sound without losing any of the original data. The format was created by the Xiph.org Foundation as an open and royalty free alternative to other lossless codecs. FLAC files are smaller than uncompressed audio but still keep the exact same sound quality. The format supports features like fast decoding and built in error checking. FLAC is often used for storing high quality audio because it keeps a perfect copy of the source.

About The WAV Format
WAV is short for Waveform Audio File Format and it was created by Microsoft and IBM in the early 1990s. The format stores audio using a structure called RIFF which arranges information in separate blocks. Many WAV files contain PCM audio which keeps every detail of the original recording. This results in very large file sizes because the audio is not compressed. WAV can also hold other kinds of audio data since it is a flexible container format. It is often used in studios and production work where clean and accurate sound is important.
